HEARD ABOUT ESE?

Have you heard about Ese?  Golden black Ese as we used to call her.  Her skin so beautiful that most people called her the goddess of the black race.  She went to papa Ijebu, who mixed pepper with lemon water, he added a little bit of carol white and a pinch of something which name, I can't recall. Suddenly the black in her skin vanished like magic, she was now "African snow white"  and she reigned in her head and her new found skin.  Ese was walking on the air, almost like her new skin gave her super powers.  Awhile later, there were cracks, itches,scratches and peelings... Her body was at war with itself.  Ese's skin changed colors more rapidly than a chameleon, no one could keep up. Then came the decay that went from her skin deep inside of her and in a flash, she was gone.   Ese died trying to be who she wasn't, she was so dissatisfied with being black in a black skin and I wonder why, what is so wrong with being black?

Dis Na Naija

Refuse walking the streets
Led by the hands of owners
The light directors are lovers of darkness
And the old and young sings
"Na Naija we dey"

The last person in a row miraculously gets attention
The inheritance of many are shared by a few
And the people say in admiration
"Na naija be dis"

The book masters feed on skirts
And for a piece in black and white
They forcefully gain many notes
"Who cares" they shout
Dis na Naija

Her flower is forcefully plucked by a gang of harmless boys
Her mother weeps to the angels in Black
Who after shaking hands with the poor boys hurried away without a word
The neighbours whisper
"Na naija wey dey"

The ones with red stain in their hands walk the streets proudly
And those that bother to notice
Gain uniform and chains
The noble judge is richly cursed by his father
And the stool of lies
Sits boldly on truth
The rich weeps in abundance
And the poor smiles in lack
"It is okay" the people scream
"Dis na naija".

So in late June I had suffered Anosmia (inability to smell) and I had thought it would be for a day or two, so I wasn't really worried. Well, I started panicking when I lost my sense of taste too. It is not that I do not know how to fight. It is that the little demons I fight, grow up overnight and muster the strength to defeat me.  It is not that I do not speak but the people seated with me, do not listen to what I say.
