HEARD ABOUT ESE?

Image
Have you heard about Ese?  Golden black Ese as we used to call her.  Her skin so beautiful that most people called her the goddess of the black race.  She went to papa Ijebu, who mixed pepper with lemon water, he added a little bit of carol white and a pinch of something which name, I can't recall. Suddenly the black in her skin vanished like magic, she was now "African snow white"  and she reigned in her head and her new found skin.  Ese was walking on the air, almost like her new skin gave her super powers.  Awhile later, there were cracks, itches, scratches and peelings... Her body was at war with itself.  Ese's skin changed colors more rapidly than a chameleon, no one could keep up. Then came the decay that went from her skin deep inside of her and in a flash, she was gone.   Ese died trying to be who she wasn't, she was so dissatisfied with being black in a black skin and I wonder why, what is so wrong with being black?

Being Omo Edo

 Omo Edo ❤

I'm so often excited and proud to be referred to as an Edo girl, except for times when people recount our otherwise very fine ability to transport ourselves from one place to another without the use of plane or any of those flying machines πŸ˜€πŸ˜€. Although,  I often as I can remind them that the ability to "travel free" on air is not indigenous to us. It's something we all unfortunately have in common as Africans. I hardly visit home, even though my early childhood days were in Edo state. But recently for not so fun reasons, I have had to visit Edo state more frequently than usual. And it's really very funny how my face lights up whenever I see the sign reading "welcome to Edo state" My excitement has nothing to do with me being born into it. It's always the great Joy from within that reflects my love for something I'm clearly familiar with, something I'm a part of. The rush of memories, both good and bad lingers and I am glad to say "this is home". So what is it about Edo State that makes it Edo state, except from the defaming attributes people so willingly define Her by? Well for me it is so many things but I will stick with the richness of the soil that makes everything grown on it a delight to the mouth. The uniqueness of the meals are not easily forgotten. I love home coming. It is always a time to feed fat on good and very tasty food.  Some of my favorites are uniquely ours and I will be sharing a few with you 😊😊😊.  Please don't count on the spellings as they will mostly be close to "correct". πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

Γ”ka bi Uvin (Roasted corn, coconut and pear)

This  is yummy  πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹  I love love it. I think I can find my way around making this one. That's not entirely true πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ No matter the technic I use, mine is always so hard. Oh well, who can blame a girl for trying?

Oriri
If it had an English name it would be something Berry. Temi and I agreed in this one πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ "Oriri-berry"  is so sweet. Its nutritional Value is out of this world. Do you know that this fruit can boost your blood faster than some blood tonic? It sure can πŸ˜‹ Oriri has other health benefits. I'm not a fan of sugar tasting stuff but I mastered eating this one for obvious reasons.

Ikpakpa bi Eko

This is my second favorite 😍 I don't know how it's made ( I hardly know how any of these meals are made... Just leave the eating to me though πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ) but it is the definition of the word delicious.

A better view ☺️😸😜 This is nothing like beans. This right here is way cooler than rice.

I am unhealthily obsessed with this one and my mum knows she can be disowned if I don't get to  eat it everyday of the few days I'm in Edo state.

Masa and Ami-oriri

This is my all time favorite ❤️πŸ’—
This is my all time favorite πŸ’ž It is made
from corn. The  black paste on it is juiced
from those berries I wrote about earlier a.k.a
"Oriri-berry" as coined by me.

So this is my list of favorite things. A part of the things that makes visiting home interesting for me. There are many other beautiful things about Edo state that I will be writing about soon. This is my one step in introduction. If you ever visit my state, please do try these out and Edo made AKARA of course.  I'm Elizabeth Okojie a.k.a Omo Edo/Esan. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°❤️❤️❤️
